There are a wide range of cotoneasters from the ground covering plant up to a small tree. Most are deciduous. They are covered with white or pink tinged flowers in early summer which then develop into bright showy berries giving brilliant autumn colour. Depending on variety can be used for ground cover, specimen shrubs and make very good hedges.
Soil Type: Will grow on almost any soil as long as it is not waterlogged. Position: Frost hardy. Can be grown in sun or part shade. Evergreens are good in the shade. Maintenance: Trim hedges as needed but preferably after berries have fallen. Otherwise prune just to keep shape.
AGM = The Royal Horticultural Society's Award of General Merit given to plants of outstanding excellence.
