Cordyline general information

Evergreen plant grown for its structure and foliage. Some are hardy. Ideal as a container plant.

Soil Type: Needs fertile well drained soil. Ideal as a container plant.
Position: Frost hardy. Requires sun to partial shade. In cold situations will thrive best near a south or south-west facing wall.
Maintenance: Not needed very often. Tidy up in the autumn. If but any major cutting back of older branches then late winter.

AGM = The Royal Horticultural Society's Award of General Merit given to plants of outstanding excellence.

New Zealand cabbage palm. Usually classified as small tree that has upright branches. Each branch is crowned with a dense mass of long sword-like green leaves up to 1m (3ft) in length. Older plants can produce small creamy-white fragrant flowers in early summer. Normally grows up to 5m (16ft) but can go to up to 10m (32ft)
